Triangles Meditation

One of the most potent types of service is a form of group meditation centered around the energetic triangles which are created whenever three or more people gather. This concept was written about extensively in the early part of the 20th century by Alice A. Bailey.

TRIANGLES MEDITATION

A powerful way to amplify our impact on the world through meditation, is to mentally link up with at least two other people with the awareness of the resultant formation of energetic triangles. As we sit together with service as a shared intent – either in person, on video call or simply in our mind’s eye – we create a powerful energetic field. This is one way we can expand our reach beyond the scope of individual meditation. In essence, we are helping each other be of service and are thereby stronger for it.

Excerpts from “Triangles” PDF (Lucis Trust):

The Work of Triangles

The service of Triangles is aiding the development of right human relations throughout the world. A knowledge and understanding of the relationship between energy and thought is of definite value in this work. The work of Triangles is directing energy by the power of thought. In Triangles we use the focused power of thought to invoke and direct into humanity the energies of light and goodwill — energies desperately needed in our world today. It is a deeply scientific work, but fundamentally simple. Invocation, prayer or aspiration, meditation — it matters not which word you use — by means of these three methods, spiritual energies are tapped and brought into activity.

The steady impact of right thought, thought qualified by the energy of goodwill, is having a definite stimulating and healing effect upon the consciousness of humanity. In addition a vast reservoir or pool of goodwill energy is being created which is drawn upon by workers for humanity all over the planet.

Any individual can join with two others who believe in the power of creative thought to form a triangle. This triangle, when linked in with the worldwide Network of Light and Goodwill, can be a practical expression of the potency of thought and a contribution to the effort to develop right relations among all humanity.

How to Create a Triangle

Find two other people to link with you each day in thought, for a few moments of creative meditation. There is a unique potency in this triple relationship. According to all the World Scriptures, God works as a Trinity, and you can do the same in your own sphere, finding two other people of like mind to form a triangle of light and spiritual interplay. Each of the two can also, in their turn, do the same and thus a great network of light and spiritual power can spread over the world. Through it the Forces of Light will be able to work and you, in your own place, will have aided and helped.

How to do the Work

The Triangles work is simple. It need take only a few minutes to perform and can be fitted into the most crowded program. Each day members sit quietly for a few moments, in whatever part of the world they each may be, and link mentally with the other members of their triangle, or triangles. They invoke the energies of light and goodwill, visualize these energies as circulating through the three focal points and pouring outward through the network of triangles that envelops the world. At the same time they undertake to repeat The Great Invocation, thus helping to form a channel for the down pouring of light and love into the body of humanity. It is not necessary to synchronize the time at which the work is done, for once triangles are built in mental substance, they can be ‘brought alive’ when any one member does the work.

Science of the Mind

The wise and skillful use of thought energy in service is not for most people an automatic process. It calls for effort and discipline and for an understanding of the principles on which the creative use of the mind can be based. The following statements indicate some of the fundamentals of this science of the mind.

1). Thought is creative as it builds by the formulation, development and clarification of ideas. It is communicative as the mind projects the ‘thoughtform’ to its destination.

2). Creative thought building requires a calm and stable emotional consciousness, a mind that can maintain focus and concentration on an idea or theme without interruption or distraction and physical conditions that permit both to be achieved.

3). Purity of motive is needed for this work. This is not a counsel of perfection; but the purpose for doing the work must be one of impersonal, selfless service for the benefit and upliftment of the whole human family.

4). The mind must be united with the heart in creative spiritual service. The Christ said ‘As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he,’ and if the thinker works without a heart open to the flow of love, the thought will lack the magnetism needed for it to achieve its objectives.

5). There are many ways of thinking a subject through in order to clarify and develop it. But effort should be made to penetrate behind outer appearances to search for meaning, for significances, for relationships with other ideas or streams of thought, to look for causes and not at effects. The attempt to do this lead the thinker to reflect on that which is not of the nature of the form, and this can lead to contemplation, which is the source of inspiration and illumination.

6). The thinker should at some stage lift the consciousness to the soul — the Christ consciousness within us — and, reflecting in the light of the soul, link in thought with the spiritual Hierarchy, the Custodians of the Plan. In this way we will help to build the link between the mind of God and the minds of men and women, and through this channel, the Plan can be helped to precipitate into human consciousness. We can also invoke the flow of light and love and the will-to-good through this channel into the minds and hearts of all.

7). The thinker should realize that one is in fact part of a subjectively unified group of thinkers (the New Group of World Servers) in any creative service work undertaken with the energy of thought. A thinker will contribute to and draw from a group ‘pool of thought.’ By linking in consciousness with this group while working with thought energy, one adds to the value of one’s own and others’ contributions.

8). Thoughtforms should be built with as much care and accuracy as we use to build a house. Just as an architect must take into account design, materials, location, wiring, lighting, heating, plumbing and gear them all to a house that is beautiful, practical, economic and good to live in, so must the creative worker in thought bear in mind the corresponding factors for mental creation. Just as there are millions of poorly designed and built houses in the world, so there are millions of ill thought out and relatively useless thoughtforms. In this process of thoughtform building, the main mental technique is visualization.

Spiritual energy must make its impact upon human minds; these minds are the only available instrument — in their combined effect — through which the will of God can be expressed. The place of humanity in the cosmic Plan becomes more vital and apparent when it is realized that one of our main responsibilities is the direction of energy currents from the mental plane, and the creation of that which is desired according to God’s purpose for his creation. Men and women, as a whole, are undergoing evolutionary development in order that they may be become conscientious creators in matter. This involves a realization of the archetypal Plan, a conscious process of willing creation, so that we co-operate with the ideal, work under law and produce that which is in line with the Plan.

This simplicity itself is a challenge, for there is no complicated procedure or organization to promote the work. It spreads mostly through our own efforts. New triangles are formed and the network grows when triangle members tell others about the work and they choose to participate.

The radiance of the network depends on us. As we increase our capacity to love, as we think with greater wisdom and clarity, the light and goodwill flowing through our triangle becomes more radiant and magnetic. Our tiny unit within the global network then glows brighter, illumines a wider area and the network as a whole is enriched. When our hearts are touched by the needs of the world, by the sorrows and the hopes of those who suffer, by the vision of ‘what could be’, we want to help more. We inspire the network as we bring this compassion, this fiery love into our Triangles work and, by so doing, affirm its direct and immediate usefulness in addressing the crises of our world. For these crises are essentially spiritual in nature, and right response depends first of all upon sufficient love and goodwill.

This is the challenge: to see that the network glows ever more brightly and that its influence is more potently present in human consciousness. Our service in Triangles does not take much time but our experience of the livingness of the network shows us, in these few minutes each day, how precious this work is and how fortunate we are to participate in the world service it embodies.

TRANSMISSION MEDITATION

When we expand our group beyond three people, our impact multiplies exponentially, with each new person adding dozens, hundreds and even thousands of triangles simply by linking up with the group.

Expanding groups of triangles in this way has also been referred to as Transmission Meditation. We start a simple practice of sitting together by reciting The Great Invocation. You can read more about Transmission Meditation and watch a couple of video introductions at this link.

Additional information, excerpted from Wikiquote:

  • Transmission Meditation is a form of meditation which is also a transmission of energy. We would not be human beings if we did not knowingly or unknowingly act as transmitters of energy. If the human kingdom were for some reason or other removed from this planet, all the lower kingdoms – animal, vegetable and even mineral – would eventually die. They would no longer receive their quota of energy from the sun at a potency which they could absorb. This is because the human kingdom (as do all kingdoms) transmits energy, albeit in a unique fashion. Whether we know it or not (and in the future we shall know it and act consciously as such), we are transmitters, a clearinghouse for energies received from the kingdoms above us. These energies are transformed by passing through us to the lower kingdoms.
  • Towards the end phase of our evolutionary journey our soul brings us into meditation. In the first life in which this occurs, it may be fleeting, but some contact with meditation is made. In the next life much more is made, until after several lifetimes, meditation becomes a natural activity of the individual in incarnation. This eventually makes the journey inward to the soul automatic.
  • The purpose of our evolutionary existence, then, is to manifest the soul’s qualities on the physical plane, and so to spiritualize matter. Meditation provides a more-or-less scientific means, depending on the meditation, of contacting the soul and gradually becoming at one with the soul, so that it can manifest clearly and potently on the physical plane. When we see such individuals, we perceive them as radiating meaning and purpose – for example, exceptionally creative artists, scientists, politicians or educators. Such persons are quite obviously governed by a force altogether different from the norm. It is the energy of the soul which is pouring through them, making them the creative beings who enrich our culture and civilization.
  • Transmission Meditation is the simplest method to accomplish this soul contact. Many meditations require that the individual master a powerful concentrated mental activity, which is more than most people can do. What people call meditation is often not meditation but simply concentration or even just reverie. There are five stages of meditation, each one leading gradually into the next: concentration, meditation, contemplation, illumination, and inspiration. Transmission Meditation can enhance all of these.
  • In a group, you simply let yourself be an instrument, while the energy is put through your chakras by the Masters. You act as a positive, poised, mental channel through which the energy is sent in a highly scientific manner. It is directed by Them, by Their thought, to where it is most useful and most needed.
  • All you need is the intention and desire to serve, and two other people who agree to transmit with you. Of course, the more people the better, but three in itself is a group. The meditation used is simple, but it is the most dynamic I know. It requires no extraordinary expertise. It is a simple aligning meditation – the alignment of the physical brain and the soul by the act of holding the attention at the ajna centre (chakra) between the eyebrows.
  • Humanity has been given an extraordinarily potent tool whereby the energy of the Masters can be invoked at will. It is called The Great Invocation. It was translated by the Masters and released to the world by the Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul through His amanuensis Alice A. Bailey. The Great Invocation is a very potent prayer. By its use, any group of transmitters can invoke the energies of the Christ and the Masters, and, acting as instruments, allow these energies to pass through their chakras in a simple, pleasant and scientific manner.
  • Transmission Meditation is really a combination of two yogas: Karma Yoga, the yoga of service, and Laya Yoga, the yoga of the chakras, the energies. This is the true yoga of the coming age. By taking part in Transmission Meditation, your evolution is propelled forward at an extraordinary rate, because of the potency of the spiritual energies sent through the chakras. The energies galvanize and activate the chakras as they pass through them. The Masters register the point in evolution of any individual by looking at the state of the chakras.
  • To take part, you only have to hold your attention at the ajna centre. In practice you will find that the attention will not stay there. It will keep dropping to its usual level somewhere around the solar plexus. As soon as the attention drops and you become aware of that, you have to bring it back to the ajna centre. This is done by thinking, inwardly, the mantram OM. As soon as you think OM, you find that your attention automatically comes back to the ajna centre. While your attention is held at the ajna centre, a connection, or alignment, is formed between the physical brain and the soul. The energies do not come from your soul. They come from the Masters, from the Kingdom of Souls. But they proceed from the soul level. While the alignment between the physical brain and the soul is kept, you are in the Transmission. As soon as your attention drops from the ajna centre, you are no longer taking part. As you think OM, the attention rises again, you are aligned. The process is one of being aligned, for a moment not aligned, and then, once again, aligned, back and forth.
  • Nothing moves a man or woman so quickly along the path of evolution than being engaged powerfully, potently, in some form of service. This form of Karma Yoga is a powerful lever of the evolutionary process. The other equally important leverage is meditation.
